They see their natural application in all those cases of packaging of products that need a significant gaseous exchange between external and internal (horticultural products that have to breathe).
Each fruit and vegetable product has its own ideal atmosphere (mix of O2 and CO2) in which all aerobic metabolic processes are slowed down to minimum survival values without triggering anaerobic marcescence processes.
Under these conditions the shelf-life of the product is maximum.
